Pirandai Thuvaiyal Recipe (பிரண்டை துவையல்)

Health Benefits:

Pirandai is rich in calcium, so Its helps with weight loss, reduces knee pain and back pain and is very good for improving bone health. It also helps heal fractures fast and is very good for arthritic patients. Pirandai powder is good for diabetic patients as it helps reduce blood sugar levels. It can be consumed even by pregnant women and children and regular use will improve bone health remarkably.


· Pirandai - 3/4 Cup

· Tamarind - (Small lemon side)

· Hing - ½ tsp

· Sesame Oil - 4 tsp

· Red chill Dry - 10

· Urad dal - 1 tsp

· Mustard - 1 tsp

· Curry leaves - 2 sprig

· Salt - As needed

· Water - As needed


  1. Choose tender Pirandai, wash and cut it into small piece, ensure you apply oil on your fingers before handling the Pirandai to avoid itching.

  2. Heat the pan with 1 tsp of sesame oil and roast the red chill, Tamarind, Hing and saute it well and transfer into the plate and let it cool.

  3. In the same pan, add another 1 tsp of oil and saute the Pirandai on medium heat until its turn into the little green. Make sure Pirandai is coated into the oil well, otherwise you will have itching in the throat while eating.

  4. Cool the Pirandai and other ingredients, Grind it into fine paste.

  5. Heat the same Pan, oil 2 tsp of oil and add mustard, Urad dal, curry leaves. And add the grinded Pirandai and mix it well. Saute it well till its change color.

  6. Pirandai Thuvaiyal is ready, Eat with Hot rice on top add ghee or sesame oil and enjoy the food.
